About Ghana Alliance Against Hunger


At the World food summit (Rome) 2003, member countries of united nations and World Leaders resolved to commit more resources to combat hunger and proverty and strive to meet the first goal of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) to halve hunger by 2015. The International Alliance Against Hunger (IAAH) was created at the summit in response to the declaration of the 2002 World Food Summit - five years later. The declaraion recognised "the urgent need to reinforce efforts of all concerned partners as an international alliance against hunger, for the fulfillment of the objectives of the 1996 Summit". The declaraion callled on "all parties ie. Governements, International Organisaions, Civil Society Organisations and the Private Sector" to reenforce thier efforts so as to act as an international alliance against hunger to achieve the WFS targets no later than 2015 in a cordinated action, bearing in mind the contribution of all parties, countries should continue to report progress to the committee on World Food Security (CFS) within its mandate as a focal point for the implementation of the WFS plan of action.

Ghana Alliance Against Hunger was established in 2005 as Ghana's representative body to the IAAH to pursue at the national and global level, the advancement of man’s long struggle against hunger and malnutrition in Ghana by engaging national institutions, non-profit organizations, civil society and corporation organization in the fight against hunger in persuit of the objectives of the IAAH and the current and enlarged CFS which mandates the CFS to play active role in the cordination of national food security policies in all member states.

The Hunger Alliance of Ghana is a registered non-profit organization which embraces all relevant orgainzations in the national effort in the fight against hunger. Its memebership drive which is ongoing, encompasses farmer based orgainzations, corporate organizations, civil society organization, national agencies and faith organizations.
